For all you who are or who will ever go through what I call 'bad news situations' regarding your health, I hope to offer a lot of assistance for you and your partner, if you have one. It is no secret, even though I am a self-imposed recluse, that I am chronically ill with a disease similar to MS. My wife and I have been fighting the effects of this disease for about fifteen years now! I state this here for you, not for sympathy or fame, but rather to give you the insight to understand why I say what I say in this article. To know where I am coming from, sort of! Also if discussing my condition and fight could benifit another, then so be it and I will do it and Whatever I can for any of you, please DO NOT hesitate to ask me. I surely don't have all the answers, but I will do my best and will at least offer 'my side' of the story for you to understand.
I am not completely sure of who or how the term 'expression partner' came to be. It may have to do with the fact that battling a serious illness requires one to be completely open and honest with one's self and the person they cling to for support. Therefore I would say that if you find the term not as descriptive as you would like, change it to whatever works for you! I will though, for the sake of clarity, continue to refer to it as an 'expression partner'.
Before you begin reading the e-book allow me to offer just a bit of my assistance to go hand-in-hand with the e-book. Having an 'expression partner' to go through and deal with 'bad news situations' along with you is one of the most spiritual expressions we human's ever have. I wish to assist you in finding the best partner based upon some insight I wish to share with you. If it is you, personally, who is going through a 'bad news situation' then I hope this will help you to better understand your emotions and who and what type of person to look for to be the very best fit as your 'expression partner' through your bad time and journey back to health. Many times, we find that a spouse really isn't the best fit for an 'expression partner'. Yes, it is true, you may have also heard that my spouse and I are best fit for each other in so many ways including as my 'expression partner' throughout my personal battle with my chronic disease. However, attempt to understand that many spouse's have far too many other elements of life that they are dealing with to be truly effective 'expression partners'. If you find that your spouse is best for you, then great-praise God! However, I don't want you to waste any time and/or emotions thinking that your marriage and relationship with your spouse is less than it should be, if you find that your spouse isn't the best choice for YOUR 'expression partner'. This may be why so many women who battle breast cancer find that close female friends fit better as an 'expression partner'.
I wish to now use a simple comparison to help you better understand 'God's Way' and the 'Human's way' as it relates to our understanding of 'immunity' and sickness. God's way of making us humans stronger and able to overcome various diseases and sicknesses is through 'the way of exposure'. God made human's immunity to be able to take care of current illnesses while building up other immunity in order to be able to fight the next round/level of illnesses that will come our way. This is the major difference between 'God's way' and 'Human's way'! God's way states,"go ahead and get exposed so that you will be able to OVERCOME it". "Be sick a little in order to not be sick a long time or even die"! The 'Human's way' is to say," no don't go-stay away, stay back here so that you dont get sick by it". We human's will always say that the best 'medicine' is to avoid it completely in order to not get sick in the FIRST place! Which way is better? Of course God's way, in my opinion because we grow immune to many illnesses and avoid many death causing illnesses in the process! The Human's way is the way of no growth no betterment just avoidance and stagnancy! Why we human's are so fond of stagnancy I will never know!
Now this is a overly simple explaination of the two ways 'of approaching illness. Naturally, there isn't an true immunity issue with regards to most 'bad new situations' such as cancer. However, understanding the ways of God is a meaningful and precious enlightment. I find that there are so many small, yet precious gems of thought that can help us human's better understand God and His ways. It is helpful to know God's way is 'the way' to keep you 'in the game' as long as and as strong and healthy as possible. Giving up and giving in is NOT God's way, that's the human's way of handling a situation when we feel that the situation is WAY OVER OUR HEAD ! With God's way there is NO illness 'too big' to fight. There isn't any situation so far out of control that surrender is the only option! With an all-powerful, all knowing God, all 'things' are truly possible ! We must understand the New Testament, Biblical fact that God's way is limitless and all powerful. In fact the very belief and expression of that strongly held belief by a sick person wishing to be well again, is what Jesus would state as the reason WHY they received healing! Remenber Jesus re-stating this over and over again, 'Your faith has saved you and made you well'? We need to remember this point when we are feeling as though things are out of control. 'Things' are only out of control for human's, not our all powerful God!
Now if one is to be able to better understand and assist another or even themselves when a serious illness strikes, there has to be growth of emotions. When one hasn't experienced too many different or varying emotions they tend to use the same emotions for all situations. The 'I'm struck in traffic and already a half-hour late for a meeting' emotion is just about at the same intensity level as when we are given the bad news about having a chronic or terminal illness! One would think that the emotion and questioning would be completely different but in most cases they aren't! Again to the person who hasn't grown and matured to different types of situations and emotions to them, traffic delays are as equally devastating as the emotions of first time 'bad news situations'. Now we can see that with regards to two people one matured and one not, the way the bad news situation is dealt with is completely different and a trouble spot just waiting to explode! Please note that I am not attempting to make a point that one not matured is bad and who has is good! Just as God's way is the way of growth/betterment and the Human's way is the way of avoidance! However, this is a point of contention because of the differences and the methods each implore in 'bad news situations'!
I am completely convinced that only a person who has had their share of 'bad news situations' is even capable of dealing with, expressing love and understanding of a person who has just received the worst news of their life and are in a truly bad state of emotions. This again, I see as God's 'way of exposure'. A little by little, throughout life we develop 'life experience immunity', for the purpose of being able to help us personally deal with life's constant barrage of 'bad news situations' and to be able to assist those less mature/less exposed in 'life experiences'. Please also understand that the age of the one more immune, or the one less immune for that much has little to do with this. Not all aged people are highly 'immune'! The amount of exposure, the amount of repeated exposure is what leads to 'immunity' and has very little to do with a person's age.
I hope you can now understand just how important it is that you take notice of where you and where your partner is when bad news situation occur! Knowing where each are will assist you in being what the other needs, even if it is only for a brief time until another 'expression partner' steps in. Growth can not be forced or rushed. If your partner is using the same emotions of being stuck in traffic for bads news situations then relax a bit and help them to slowly begin to see the difference and the road to growth or 'immunity'. If your partner is the one who is more exposed and understands the differences and uses emotions more appropriately, then you will need to respond accordingly. A little at a time is a great way to accomplish anything! God's way is a little now, a little later, to be all better soon! Follow this way for less stress and confrontations.
